Ivermectin 6 mg is an antiparasitic medication widely used in the treatment of several human parasitic infections. It works by interfering with the nervous system of parasites, ultimately causing their paralysis and death. One of its primary approved uses is in the treatment of onchocerciasis, also known as river blindness, a condition caused by Onchocerca volvulus worms transmitted through blackfly bites. Ivermectin helps reduce the number of microfilariae in the skin and eyes, which can lessen symptoms and limit disease progression. Ivermectin 6 mg is also used to treat strongyloidiasis, an intestinal infection caused by Strongyloides stercoralis. In this condition, Ivermectin reduces the parasite load and helps resolve symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and skin irritation. In some regions, Ivermectin is part of mass drug administration programs aimed at controlling parasitic diseases in communities where these infections are common. Beyond its primary indications, Ivermectin may be prescribed for certain other parasitic conditions when recommended by a healthcare professional. While generally well tolerated, it may cause mild side effects in some individuals, such as dizziness, fatigue, or skin reactions. Safe use requires proper medical supervision to ensure suitability and to avoid interactions with other health conditions or medications.
