Has anyone else noticed how the same ad strategy can work great one week and completely flop the next? I’ve been going back and forth between push and native ads for a while now, especially in iGaming, and honestly… it’s not as straightforward as people make it sound.

When I first started testing both, I thought push ads would be the clear winner. They’re fast, cheap, and you can get traffic almost instantly. But after a few campaigns, I started seeing some weird patterns—lots of clicks, very low engagement, and conversions that didn’t really justify the spend. That’s when I began questioning whether I was chasing volume instead of quality.

On the other hand, native ads felt slow and a bit harder to crack. Setting them up took more effort—better creatives, cleaner landing pages, and more thought around targeting. At first, I almost gave up on them because results weren’t immediate. But over time, I started noticing something different: the traffic felt more “real.” People were actually spending time on the page instead of bouncing in seconds.

The biggest challenge for me was figuring out where each format fits. I used to treat push and native like competitors, but now I see them more as tools for different stages. Push ads are great when I want quick data or test new offers. They’re kind of like a fast feedback loop. If something doesn’t click there, chances are it won’t magically work elsewhere either.

But when it comes to scaling or building something more stable, native ads have been more reliable for me. They blend into content better, so users don’t feel like they’re being sold to right away. That makes a big difference in iGaming, where trust plays a huge role. People don’t just sign up because they saw a flashy ad—they need a bit of context and confidence.

One thing I learned the hard way is that creatives matter way more for native than push. With push, you can sometimes get away with simple hooks and urgency. Native, though, needs storytelling—even if it’s short. Headlines, images, and the landing page all need to feel connected. Once I started aligning those pieces better, my results improved a lot.

I also realized that device targeting plays a role. Push campaigns seemed to perform better on mobile for me, probably because people are used to quick interactions there. Native worked well across both mobile and desktop, especially when the content matched the platform style.

If you’re stuck choosing between the two, I’d say don’t think in terms of “which is better.” That mindset held me back for a while. Instead, think about what you’re trying to achieve. Quick testing? Go push. Long-term consistency? Native might be worth the extra effort.

I came across a pretty helpful breakdown on iGaming advertising that reinforced some of these ideas. It didn’t give a magic answer, but it did help me look at the bigger picture instead of chasing short-term wins.

At the end of the day, both formats work—but not in the same way. For me, the best results came when I stopped forcing one to do the job of the other. Once I started using push for speed and native for depth, things finally started making more sense.

Curious to hear what others are seeing though. Are you getting better ROI from push, or has native been more stable for you?
